Age of Empires (AoE) was the first ES game and the first "Age of" game. Hailing back from the 1990s and rocking cellphone graphics and midi music, it owns considerably, although not as much as later ES games.

Age of Empires laid groundwork for later games, with its Town Centers and Villagers and basic economic model and Cataphracts. It was mainly designed by Bruce Shelley probably.
Setting[]
The game begins in the stone age which feels right at home with its graphics and design. There are twelve civs in four groups, and I'll now paste a table from Wikipedia so that you can find out more about twelve civs in four groups

Whether in Africa or Europe or Asia, everyone builds hoplites and hunts for elephants. Also, everyone in the world said "roggan?" when selected
Campaigns[]
There's four!
- Ascent of Egypt is a learning campaign and it takes place like right at the beginning of time itself and you get to hunt gazelles
- Glory of Greece is about Athens and you fight dudes who fight Athens
- Voices of Babylon is a campaign about Babylon and then in the last mission you besiege Nineveh and holy shit Nineveh is the giantest fucking city in any Age game
- Yamato Empire of the Rising Sun is about Japan in the early middle ages. The last mission is dated AD 405, which is like 30 years before Attila kicks off the AoK:TC period. According to Wikipedia it's also the first time the Kara-Khitai go on written record which I refuse to believe is a coincidence

Multiplayer[]
Yeah there certainly is multiplayer but I don't know any real people who played it. Look as far as I'm concerned multiplayer was only invented around 2000 okay
